I have written many informational publications for Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCEDSV). White papers and tip sheets that I wrote would be published individually, or as a part of a larger toolkit. Publications were then added to the organization's library of resources, many of which are only accessible through membership to the Coalition.
Increasing Accessibility for Survivors of Sexual Assault with Sensory Processing Disorders is a publication that is designed to thoroughly provide information for sexual assault advocates and nurse examiners about what sensory processing disorder is, and how to provide relevant and safe services for individuals with sensory processing disorder.
Guidance on Guardianship and Sexual Assault Nurse Exams is an FAQ for advocates who may not know what their legal obligations are regarding serving adult survivors with a legal guardian. This was written in collaboration with a staff attorney and representatives at Michigan Disability Right Coalition.
I contributed a portion of the Human Trafficking Toolkit, regarding best practices for serving human trafficking survivors from the LGBT+ community (pages 49-52).
Accessing Sexual Assault Services with a Disability is designed to be an easy to read resource for individuals with a disability, to give them information that will help them get what they need from their interactions with sexual assault advocates.
Sexual Assault in Diverse Communities - Invisible Disabilities is designed to be an easy to read resource for sexual assault advocates to understand how to better serve individuals with invisible disabilities and how to improve their services to be more responsive to those needs.
I was a frequent contributor to the blog at the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence. Some blogs I penned individually, like a vulnerable examination of able-bodied privilege. I also co-wrote blogs with my other team members. I also created an internal blog for LGBTQ+ Pride Month, highlighting the diversity of identities and experiences under the LGBTQ+ umbrella by interviewing my coworkers and writing about their stories. All of these blogs were written to promote the mission of MCEDSV, a mission of anti-oppression, inclusion, and equity.
At MCEDSV, our policy was to submit our written works to two peers for edits before submitting to leadership for publication. I appreciated the editing feedback, and enjoyed editing other people's work. We wrote with many different styles of writing, although our policy was to follow APA formatting. Some writers were more accessible, while others wrote at a densely academic level. My personal offering to the organization was attention to AP Style, which I learned when I was studying journalism. Most of my peers did not have that perspective on their writing and I was able to teach them something new. Through the editing process, I was able to improve my writing in many styles.
